Polos are a hot category. Between the popularity of golf as an outdoor, socially distanced
sport option and the demand for comfortable, yet professional work from home attire, golf shirts
have made it to the top of every buyer’s list.
In honor of national golf month, and the first major Tour event of 2020, here’s a look at the
most important fashion trends for this wardrobe essential.
Airy Prints & Patterns
Tie-dye is not something you’d typically associate with golf wear, but at this year’s PGA
Championship at TPC Harding Park, players sported Haight-Ashbury influenced designs in everything
from shoes to shirts, and pullovers to hats.
Even if the hippy-friendly scripting is a one tournament wonder, you can expect to see a
coastal vibe influencing the more mainstream prints with airy patterns, watercolor stripes and
skyline views in more events throughout the season.
Lightweight and Technical
Well-tailored basics have their place on the Tour with lightweight technical fabrics (even
running fabrics) delivering extremely comfortable performance styles. PGA Tour Pro
@JustinThomas34 is an influencer for
classic dressing, often sporting RLX brand technical golf shirts. Heathered fabrics and tonal
textures act as solid fabrics to bring new interest to the classic silhouettes.
In women’s apparel, look for a variety of neckline options for women such as snaps, covered
buttons, Y-shape and Henley collars.
Cross Over Style
As golf designers target a younger clientele, cross over styles that mix traditional golf
fashion with streetwear influences are becoming more popular. This means you can leave the course
without changing and your outfit won’t give up your prior whereabouts. Full-button polos have a
laid-back feel and appeal to younger audience. Golf labels have introduced more hoodies and pullover
styles and added stretch to every style imaginable.
Polos with purpose
2020 trends are not just about the hottest new color or latest print. The biggest story at the
PGA show in Orlando was sustainability. From corporate initiatives to entire product collections,
environmentally responsible manufacturing was a key element for the big apparel companies.
The Vansport Planet Polo uses Repreve® premium recycled polyester an earth-friendly fiber that
keeps plastic bottles from landfills and oceans. The heather jersey polo features super comfortable
moisture-wicking fabric with extra stretch for comfort.
