Making waves to save our seas

When it came time to choose our 1% partner, we looked for organizations whose efforts aligned with our goal to reduce plastic waste from entering our landfills and oceans. Clean Ocean Action, a New Jersey based nonprofit organization was chosen not only for their dedication to protecting beaches and waterways, but also for their locality which allowed Vantage members to participate in community events like the recent Beach Sweep along the New Jersey Coastline. On October 26, 2019, family and friends of Vantage participated in COA’s annual Beach Sweep at Asbury Park Beach. The annual Beach Sweep started in 1985 and has since had a total of 133,390 volunteers participate in the removal of 6,742,941 pieces of harmful and unsightly debris.

What is 1% for the Planet?

1% for the Planet is a global movement inspiring businesses and individuals to support environmental solutions through annual memberships and everyday actions. With YOUR purchase from the Earthwise collection, as well as, the Denali Jacket, 1% of sales will be donated to nonprofit organizations focused on environmental causes.

What Is Repreve® Recycled Polyester?

Just like Lycra is a brand name for elastane, Repreve® is a brand name for recycled polyethylene terephthalate or rPET. Repreve® is a recycled fiber that contains recycled materials – including post-industrial waste and used plastic bottles. These recycled fibers are then turned into apparel fabrics, hosiery, upholstery, home goods, and even seat belts.

Is Repreve® fabric safe?

The Repreve® yarn is made from recycled PET water bottles. PET is food grade and BPA-free. In addition, Repreve®’s Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification ensures that yarns are free of harmful levels of more than 100 restricted substances.

What are the benefits of Repreve®?

To date, the making of Repreve® polyester has led to over 16 billion plastic bottles being recycled. Not only are you reducing plastic waste, but according to Unifi compared to virgin polyester, Repreve® fibers use 45% less energy, emit over 30% less greenhouse gases, and use 20% less water.
